Camp Galileo at Almaden Country School – UPDATED 2022

Camp GalileoCamp Galileo is a summer day camp that inspires kids to imagine new ideas, collaborate with peers, and express themselves creatively. Kids enjoy art, science, and outdoor programming every day, all wrapped in fun camp traditions and delivered by highly enthusiastic staff. Camp Galileo is for pre-kinders through 5th graders.

As the week progresses, activities become more sophisticated and culminate toward a project. The hands-on curriculum is developed in partnership with The Tech Museum of Innovation, de Young Museum, and Klutz. Themes for 2010 include the following:

  • Adventures in Flight & Egyptian Art
  • Amusement Park Engineers & Medieval Art
  • Mission to the Moon & Psychedelic ’60s
  • Ocean Expeditions

The camp is being held at Almaden Country School, June 21 through August 6, 2010. Camp is Monday through Friday, 9am to 1pm or 9am to 3pm. Extended care is offered from 8–9am and 3–5:30pm. [EVENT IS CLOSED]

9th Annual Math Enrichment Summer Program at Leland High School – UPDATED 2022

Math Enrichment Summer Program further develops each student’s intellect and knowledge in mathematics and language arts. The curriculum is tailored to the grade the student will be entering for their upcoming school year.

Kindergartners through sixth graders learn math, reading, writing, and computers. Middle school students receive a broad education in college preparatory math courses, from pre-algebra to math analysis. Students can also participate in a wide variety of recreational activities planned throughout the summer, including Toy Story 3 movie day, on-campus carnival, Wii time, field trip to Six Flags Marine World in Vallejo, and end of Summer raffle and banquet.

Math Enrichment Summer Program is fully accredited by the Schools Commission of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Math Enrichment tuition and any after school care fees are eligible for flexible spending plans (FSA).

Math Enrichment Summer Program is being held at Leland High School from June 14 to July 23, 2010. Class is Monday through Friday from 9am-3pm. Care is available before school starting at 7:45am and after school until 6pm. Tuition is $900 (less than $5 an hour). Register by Friday, April 16, 2010 and receive a $50 early registration discount.

Dance, Act, Perform Camp for Kids Over Spring Break – UPDATED 2022

Hollywood SignInstructors for the Dance, Act, Perform Camp guide campers through the production and performance of their very own variety show. The camp encourages creative expression and helps build self-esteem. At the end of the week campers perform their show for family and friends, complete with costumes, props, and music. For kids ages 5-11. At the Almaden Community Center. April 12-16, 2010, 1:30-4:30pm. [EVENT IS CLOSED]

Cheer Registration for 2010 Almaden Pop Warner Season – UPDATED 2022

Almaden CheerCheer registration is now open for the 2010 Almaden Pop Warner season. Cheer is for girls and boys ages 5-15. Save $55 by taking advantage of the early registration discount.

Registration fees are $200 if you register by March 27, 2010. Registration goes up to $255 after March 27. There is an additional $255 uniform fee that includes the skirt, shell, liner, shoes, socks, pms, briefs, and bow. The all inclusive registration plus uniform package is $490.

You can register and pay online or in person at The Little Gym in Princeton Plaza on the following dates:

  • Saturday, March 23, 2010, 10am-12pm
  • Saturday, April 24, 2010, 10am-12pm
  • Saturday, May 23, 2010, 10am-12pm

Join Kitty Monahan and Friends of New Almaden Quicksilver County Park Association as they take you on a wildflower scavenger hunt through various stations at Jacque Ridge along Wood Road Trail in Almaden Quicksilver Park.

The Jellybeans and the Big Book BonanzaAs part of the Doris Dillon Author Series, Almaden Branch Library is hosting Laura Numeroff, the author of “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.” Laura will be promoting and signing her newest book, “The Jellybeans and the Big Book Bonanza.” Hicklebee’s Bookstore will be onsite to sell Laura Numeroff’s books. This program is sponsored in cooperation with Hicklebee’s Bookstore and Graystone Elementary School. The event will be at the Doris Dillon Children’s Library inside the Almaden Branch Library. Update on February 16, 2011: The Spring 2011 Activity Guide for Almaden Community Center is now available.

San Jose Parks Recreation & Neighborhood Services has released its City Wide Activity Guide for Spring & Summer 2010. The guide includes all of the activities planned for the Almaden Community Center.

Almaden Valley residents have a variety of activities to choose from, including the following: arts and crafts, camps, dance, early childhood recreation, education and enrichment, health and fitness, music, sports leagues and drop-ins, cooking, specialty programs, senior programs and events, and family events.

Castillero’s Advanced Drama Presents Bye, Bye Birdie – UPDATED 2022

Bye Bye BirdieCastillero’s Advanced Drama is bringing you Bye, Bye Birdie, the hip, rock-n-roll smash hit! The plot revolves around rock and roll superstar Conrad Birdie and the complications that arise when his agent stages a publicity stunt on The Ed Sullivan Show in which he will kiss one lucky girl from Sweet Apple, Ohio before being drafted into the army. Featured cast members include Brian Clark and Garrett Meyer as Albert, Jamie Landrum and Carly Giacinto as Rosie, and Molly Veregge and Tiani Hernandez as Kim. All performances at Castillero’s Black Box Theatre. Tickets are on sale now for performances on March 11, 12, 13, 18, 19 and 20, 2010. Curtain is at 7:30pm for all dates.
